Announcement of Winners for the Ninth International MANGA Award

The International MANGA Award was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to honor MANGA artists who have contributed to the promotion of MANGA overseas. There were 259 entries from 46 countries and regions this year.

Following the first selection carried out with the assistance of the Association of MANGA Publishers, the Jury of the Award led by Ms. Machiko Satonaka (Manga artist) made strict and fair judgment. As a result of the judgment, the Executive Committee of the Award chose a total of 14 winners, including one Gold Award work and three Silver Award works. The team from Israel, Boaz Lavie, Asaf Hanuka & Tomer Hanuka won the Gold Award this year. They were the first-ever winner of the International Manga Award from Israel.

On February 26, a ceremony for the Tenth International MANGA Award were held in Tokyo to grant Gold and Silver Awards to the works below.

    Made his debut in 2009 as a director and scriptwriter of a short film “The Lake”. It was featured in multiple international film festivals such as the San Francisco International Film Festival.
    〈Story line〉The Divine tells the story of Mark, an explosives expert who signs onto a freelance job with his old army friend, Jason. In Quanlom, a fictional Southeast Asian country, the pair are assisting the military when Mark is lured in by a group of child-soldiers, led by 10-year-old twins nicknamed "The Divine", intending on forcing a showdown between ancient magic and modern technology.

    〈Story line〉A professor in the Ancient Greece discovers that an infant’ s brain can be used as information storage. The Ancient Chen dynasty implants a very dangerous plan in a baby. Time passes and the story features a girl of the present day who suddenly loses consciousness and recalls the memory of a village-head’s daughter who refuses to marry and intends to spoil her wedding ceremony.
